17. Thank Goodness for Zoom Conventions and Cooperative Hair
June 9, 2022
I survived today’s virtual convention, including the live panel discussion. It was a well-received session overall.
Doreen was present for emotional support. I had to remind her that she should not block the camera.
Thank goodness it was a recorded presentation from 6 weeks ago (see the difference in hair), not sure how this would have gone if I had to do the talk live
Edited to add: thank you, hair, for cooperating and not falling out yet. I did not need a wig today.
I wrote a second, similar post for the Female Physicians Facing Cancer facebook group – the “the best group you never wanted to be part of.”
Celebrating small career victories while in the middle of treatment. I presented at a virtual conference which was already scheduled prior to the “plot twist” screening mammogram in February 2022. It was a well-received session overall for the recorded lectures + live panel discussion.
Thankful for a few things:
1. The conference dates worked out schedule-wise. I just had my first TC session (of 4) on May 30, with the next being June 20. The June 9 date gave me enough time to get over the crappy 1st post-chemotherapy week. It would have been a worse experience if this presentation happened during crappy week.
2. A recorded presentation from 6 weeks ago (see the difference in hair) done prior to chemotherapy. I’m not sure how this would have gone if I had to do the talk live. I also learned to edit out “ums and ahs” so somehow I sounded smarter!
3. Thank you, hair, for cooperating and not falling out yet. I did not need a wig today. Now if you could just make it through the weekend because I have to be at a department photoshoot on Monday, I would be grateful too!
Photos of me during the presentation, and at the panel discussion while fangirling and having impostor syndrome.
