Educating the Educators-in-training: Two Days with the Music Education Majors at the UP College of Music

More fun than clinic! 😃

We wrapped up two days of hybrid talks for future music educators regarding performing artists’ health, scheduled for February 5 and 6, 2026. Thankful to everyone who joined us in-person and over Zoom for each of the four sessions (yes we did every informational talk 4 times, to accommodate all the music education classes and the faculty’s schedule). We opened the first day to the public (non-faculty or student of the College of Music).

Hooray for educating the educators 🤓 and hopefully fostering a cultural shift from “no pain, no gain” to “seek help when pain interferes with playing” – preventing injuries before they happen or worsen. Grateful for the support from UPD CMu Music Education Department, UP Junior Music Educators’ Guild – JMEG and PGH Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.

Special thanks to Frances Carlos and Issa Abelita who joined me in these education sessions, bringing their own expertise to our musicians’ health talks. Shout out also to MuEd faculty Pat Carranza and Jesher Edrei Perez. After our four sessiosn were done, we paid a short courtesy call to Dean Pat Brillantes-Silvestre and her administrative staff.
