9th Annual Balik-Scientist Convention

Today’s (out of of town) event: 9th Balik Scientist Program (BSP) annual convention.
Arrived at the convention center Tuesday the 26th, did a dry run of the presentation, had dinner with local relatives in the Angeles City area. To refresh your memory: I received a Balik Scientist Program award grant for a 6-month engagement (January to June, 2023) at University of the Philippines Manila, in particular at the Philippine General Hospital’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.
The convention proper:
A room full of very smart people in fashionable Filipino attire (I enjoyed looking at all the ways you can interpret “modern Filipiniana” as stated in the invitation). As a speaker for the “BSP Talks” portion, I also got this fancy thing around my neck called a lei (yes, influenced by the Hawaiian lei). Thankfully, the only thing I needed to do for the Q and A portion was to represent women in science and medicine by taking a seat in the front row (and look pretty) since the questions were for other people who had actual research laboratories.
