29. Radiation Therapy Simulation
August 17, 2022
Update. Went for CT simulation today. This is a session in which the radiation oncologist and medical physicist figure out the anatomy and the correct dose for zapping the tumor site.
Doreen and I brought with us a lot of patience – which thankfully did not run out, because the appointment went quicker than expected.
When I got to the radiation oncology department, the staff had me change into this lovely patient gown. I was grateful that it had pretty good coverage and was made of soft, comfy cotton cloth. Not scratchy at all.
I wore my starry constellation socks today, since I figured stars emit radiation and that was appropriate
The CT scan itself didn’t take too long. The radiation technologist had me lay on the machine’s “bench”, and positioned my left arm above my head in order to maximally expose the armpit and breast… like the Statue of Liberty but with the opposite arm. This will be the position for the actual daily radiation therapy sessions when they start on August 30. The plan is for 20 sessions, Monday to Friday.
