Moderating a Webinar, Fueled by Caffeine
Social media post for Thursday, September 14, 2023:
I did this today. Fueled by caffeine. Not sure I want to do it ever again. So many things to pay attention to when moderating a webinar… but thankful to the UP Medicine Class of 1999 webinar tech team behind the scenes for all their help.
Backstory: our University of the Philippines Medicine Class is raising funds for next year, when we will be hosting the grand alumni homecoming. As part of that fundraising, we are running 12 webinars this year plus many more next year. While I am on the Webinar Committee, my role is mostly tech and background stuff like writing and graphics. Not being on-camera and moderating the webinar! But I couldn’t say no to the persistent and very capable committee head Dr. Melissa Ann Cespedes-Cruz (Mel) who is the perfect person to lead this endeavor. I think her non-traditional pre-medical Business Administration and Accounting degree helps a lot!
Anyway, I think it went well overall. I strayed off the script at one point because I scrolled down too fast when reading, but I think the audience forgave me for it. Dr. Nicodemus was a great speaker with an informative lecture – he seemed very at ease and giving a webinar seemed to be a breeze for him. Mel and our class president Dr. Carlo Panelo thought I had a “cool DJ voice”… I guess that’s a good thing!
