Lay Forum on X-Linked Dystonia Parkinsonism (XDP or “Lubag”)

Today’s activity: lay forum with the Department of Neurosciences on X-Linked Dystonia Parkinsonism (XDP), locally known as “lubag” – an inherited condition affecting males with ancestry from Panay island in the Philippines. It was interesting that while my colleagues were at the midyear national convention for Rehabilitation Medicine in Roxas City on Panay island this weekend (see map) while I – who remained in Manila – was talking about a condition originating from Panay 🤔

Many thanks to movement disorders neurologist Dr. Roland Dominic Jamora, chief resident Pamela Lanuza, and other resident physicians for the opportunity and warm welcome!

You can watch the lay forum talks here on the UP Philippine General Hospital Adult Neurology facebook page.

Personal reflections: this is something I would NOT have been able to do in 2023 when I still had chemo brain. Translating English to Filipino, and medical-ese to normal everyday language for an entire talk with Powerpoint slides (thank goodness for Powerpoint slides) made me anxious!
