Parkinson’s Disease Lay Fora

Last week I had the privilege to participate in not one, but two lay fora about Parkinson’s Disease (PD) talking about role of dance therapy in maintaining physical ability and quality of life. April is PD month because Dr. James Parkinson’s birthday is April 11. He first described the disease in 1817, writing “An Essay on the Shaking Palsy”.

The first one was community-based at Artists en Pointe dance studio, along with dancer and dance instructor Richardson Yadao on April 22. This was followed by a second one on April 25 at the Philippine General Hospital, in cooperation with the Department of Neurosciences – Division of Adult Neurology. This included a video demonstration by Dr. Al Dimarucut, who will be leading a dance therapy class at PGH later this year.
