Ballet Weekend and Dance Medicine with ABAP

Thank you very much to the Association of Ballet Academies, Philippines, Inc. (ABAP) for having us at their first Dance Convention held at St. Paul College Pasig! We had a session on dance injury and prevention (so much to discuss… we ran overtime) and another on first aid/emergency preparedness for ballet studios. Then we learned all about pointe shoes (as a non-ballerina, I was quite surprised at the variety of brands and models).

This two-day convention has two tracks, one for actual ballet classes/workshops and another for lecture-type learning sessions. Aside from our health-related bits this morning and pointe shoes, other talks were on social media engagement, nutrition, mental health and theatrical makeup.

Thanks very much to my co-panelists (without whom we wouldn’t be able to fill a total of 2.5 hours of convention session time): especially those who brought their own dance experiences! Drs. Paschenelle Celis, Malou Fernandez-Tapang, Frances Carlos, Issa Abelita, and Ria Panis.

Congratulations to ABAP for a successful convention!
