Musika at Ginawa (Music and Comfort): Holistic Health for Music Teachers and Students

Musika at Ginhawa (Music and Comfort): a two-day symposium focusing on the holistic health of tertiary level pre-professional musicians brought to you by the University of the Philippines College of Music and the PGH Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. The first day (Monday, March 17, 2025) was for an audience of music teachers in the UPCMu Mini Hall, and the second day (Tuesday, March 18, 2025) at the Music Library was for the students. We were greatly honored and inspired by the presence of Peabody Institute and Johns Hopkins Medicine Bloomberg Distinguished Professor Dr. Kris Chesky, internationally recognized for his efforts in Performing Arts Medicine research. Aside from the main events, we also had time to squeeze in a tour of the UP Diliman campus, a meeting with chancellor Carlo Vistan, shopping for souvenirs, an impromptu jam session with a kulintang ensemble (instruments from the island of Mindanao) and a dinner round table discussion with some of the PAM Advocates National Association of the Philippines special interest group members. All in all a jam-packed two very fulfilling and productive days! Lots more to do for Performing Arts Medicine in the Philippines but we are very excited for all the potential forthcoming projects!
