40. Radiation Therapy, Session 16 of 20 (80%)
September 20, 2022
Update. I wasn’t going to write an update today, but I might forget the details so I’ll do it anyway.
16 of 20 radiation therapy sessions done, 80 percent. Although I may be further along than I think, because the boost dose (after the “primary course” of 15 sessions) is really a mini version: shorter duration, more superficial, smaller area targeted. We even used a different machine and room today, [linear accelerator] Linac 1 instead of Linac 2. This machine is housed in a room with an aquarium scene painted on the ceiling, instead of palm trees. But I didn’t get to “enjoy” it much because the zapping today lasted less than 5 minutes instead of the previous sessions that lasted 20-25 minutes. Doreen and I were pleasantly surprised!
The change in routine probably threw the radiation technologist off a bit – she forgot to sign my attendance card after the session. Good thing I took a look at it when she handed it back to me. I was present and deserve credit for today
Despite having a shorter session, I still had to wait for the Philhealth (universal healthcare insurance) counter to open… so I pretty much spent the same total amount of time at the hospital today as yesterday. More time in the waiting room, less time under the radiation machine. It’s OK – more time to read a book.
Today is also my grandfather’s death anniversary, so I stopped by the Mt. Carmel columbarium after radiation to say some prayers before heading home. I took a selfie but that didn’t turn out well, so here’s Doreen instead.
